Brian is SBP's Company Secretary and Business Administrator, responsible for the general and financial administration of the company. This includes all sales, stock control of the entire crop, KPIs and the processing of member contributions. He also liaises with Eyemouth Freezers and manages the marketing of the pea crop through Fullers Foods. Brian oversees the good professional governance of SBP in line with the business' ethos of honesty, openness and transparency.
A professionally qualified accountant with 30+ years working in industry, Brian's previous experience includes working as a fisherman, fish merchant and chartered accountant before taking up a role with the large food processing and packaging operation Christian Salvesen. He also worked for large electronics firm Plexus for 12 years and has been with SBP for 10 years.
As SBP's Operations Manager, Richard is responsible for all aspects of the growing process. He does, however, regard his principal role as taking care of SBP's growers, considering communication to be key. As such he is always available to growers by phone, email or face-to-face meeting. His operations role includes sourcing land which meets SBP's rigorous criteria, establishing drilling programmes, organising seed supplies and liaising with Agrii over agronomy. During the harvest period, from June until the end of September, Richard manages the whole harvesting operation.
Richard holds a BSc Hons in agriculture from Newcastle University and an MBA in Advanced Farm Management from the RAU. He is also BASIS and FACTS qualified. Richard came to SBP from Co-op Farms for which he worked for 5 years, managing the Borders Unit. Prior to that he worked with his family business in Yorkshire where they grew and supplied vining peas to Birds Eye for 22 years. During this time he took on the role of Field Manager and Director of the local pea growing group.
